  • Dear Trish,

Welcome to the inaugural issue of NexTech, your source for news and information about air blown fiber systems and applications. Feel free to forward this newsletter to any of your colleagues who might be interested in learning how this technology can help them remain technologically competitive.

We welcome your comments and encourage you to contact us with questions or ideas for what you'd like to learn about in future issues.

Introducing MicroBlo - For Outside Plant ABF Applications

This new, ruggedized air blown fiber system was designed specifically for outside plant applications. Like Blolite, the MicroBlo system begins with the installation of empty MicroDucts. Using specially designed equipment, MicroBlo cables are blown into the MicroDucts, as needed, to meet network demands. MicroDuct routes can be expanded allowing for additional MicroBlo cables to be installed, growing with the network over time.

MicroBlo loose tube cables can contain up to 48 fibers in a 6.0mm polyethylene sheathed construction. These cables are installed in 10mm Microduct, designed for duct or direct buried installations. Maximum continuous blowing distances of up to 1 km are typical.

19-way Multiduct Data Sheet Is Now Available
A new product data sheet describing the properties and characteristics of our 19-way Multiduct cable is now available in print as well as on our web site (www.blolite.net) This high-density Multiduct product is ideal for larger campus outside plant applications where extra capacity is frequently required.

The 19-way Multiduct can be configured with either 5mm or 8mm Microduct, depending on such factors as distance and capacity. In addition, 19-way Multiduct is available with either steel or aluminum interlock armor, making them suitable for direct buried installations.

    ABF Installation Tip
When installing Microduct tubes or Multiduct cable, be sure to maintain the minimum recommended bend radius both during pulling operations (20x OD) and after the cable is installed (10x OD). Because the tubes are hollow, bends that are too tight may cause the Microducts to kink. Even kinks that are too small to affect the projectile testing may create a problem during the blowing operation.

REMEMBER: one of the keys to a smooth blowing operation is careful Microduct installation.

Surf's Up - Totally Absurd Patents
Lots of great ideas are patented every day. British Telecom patented the process for blowing fibers into hollow tubes back in the mid-1980's and it's through a license from BT that NextGen/General Cable is able to market products that utilize this technology.

Unfortunately, not all patented ideas are so sound. Check out the link below to see some less well-known patents.
