MicroBlo™ — A Future-Proof, Fiber-on-Demand Outside Plant Network With Extraordinary Design Flexibility

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY, February 10, 2004 — NextGen Fiber Optics L.L.C. and General Cable announce their appointment as exclusive distributor for the MicroBlo air blown fiber system. The system, distributed under license from Novar and Tyco Electronics , offers unique performance capabilities through a revolutionary design that provides the industry with a flexible, economical and future-proof, fiber-on-demand infrastructure, for large and small outside plant networks. MicroBlo offers today’s customers a low-density and robust system that adapts easily to campus loop, access and fiber-to-the-home network topologies.

“The MicroBlo system is an excellent addition to our already established premise air blown fiber technology – Blolite®. The use of air blown technology as a deployment of optical fibers is becoming more widespread. MicroBlo offers significant advantages over conventional outside plant fiber optic cable.” says Trish Dawson, Manager of Market Development at NextGen Fiber Optics. In a MicroBlo system installation, Empty tubes (called MicroDucts) are initially installed to create the network framework. Very small, specially designed cables are then blown into the empty MicroDucts as greater capacity is needed to meet current network requirements. By installing sufficient MicroDucts during the initial deployment, network capacity is easily and economically expandable.

Today’s communication networks must be capable of supporting information and applications that are now just in the planning stage, but tomorrow, will become reality — with increasing network performance demands and difficult to predict deployment schedules. The technology required to meet these needs is ever changing and the use of optical fiber in loop, access and campus networks is growing rapidly. The MicroBlo system provides the market with an extraordinarily flexible, end-to-end blown fiber cabling solution.
